On Tuesday, November 19, an important reform of the Immigration Law regulations came into effect, which will change the process of regularizing immigrants in Spain. The Ministry of Inclusion, Social Security and Migration assures that the reform is intended to simplify the requirements for obtaining work and residence permits, which would help some 300,000 immigrants who are in an irregular situation in Spanish territory.
The new measures imposed by the Government have several new features. Among the most notable are protection for temporary workers, a new regularization route for asylum seekers whose request has been rejected, and authorizations to facilitate family reunification. Another of the most striking points of this reform of the Immigration Law is the creation of the Second Chance rooting.
This is the Second Chance Rooting
The Second Chance Rooting is an initiative created to regularize the situation of those who have lost their residence permit in the last two years, provided that the loss is not due to reasons related to public order, security or health. This mechanism aims to address situations of recent administrative irregularity, such as those cases in which the permit could not be renewed due to ignorance or because the person was outside of Spain.
