Kurdish lawyer Ebru Timtik dies on hunger strike Ebru Timtik, a Turkish-Kurdish lawyer, was part with Aytaç Ünsal of a group of eighteen lawyers arrested in September 2017 who were accused of terrorism crimes and therefore imprisoned in Turkey. All of them are members of either the Progressive Lawyers Association or the People's Law Office, known for representing dissidents from the Turkish state. Amnesty International considered that their sentences were "a parody of justice and a demonstration that the Turkish courts succumb to political pressure and cannot have fair trials". Ebru Timtik and Aytaç Ünsal, her partner, went on an indefinite hunger strike demanding a fair trial. Throughout the time that the strike has lasted, they have had the support of numerous Associations and Law Firms, including PAJARES & ASOCIADOS ABOGADOS. Unfortunately, on August 27, lawyer Ebru Timtik lost her life without the Supreme Court of Turkey having resolved her appeals. She weighed only 30 kg as a result of her hunger strike. Aytac Unsal under the pressure of all his world colleagues, and by court order, has abandoned the strike, hoping for her speedy recovery and a fair application of the law.
