Latin America sits down to a meal: gastronomy and culture as languages ​​of unity

Chefs and diplomats from Latin America celebrated gastronomy in Madrid as a symbol of identity, cultural dialogue, and unity among nations.

The Madrid headquarters of the Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo law firm hosted the event “Ibero-American Identity: Dialogues that Unite Us,” a conference organized by the Embassy of Ecuador in Spain and the Hispanic Influence Association, with the active participation of the embassies of Peru and Panama. The gathering brought together diplomatic figures, institutions, and cultural leaders to reflect on the ties that bind Latin America, with a special emphasis on gastronomy as an expression of shared identity.

A gathering to celebrate what unites us
From the host firm, Javier Cremades reflected on the role of Hispanic civilization in the global context. He emphasized that, unlike other colonial experiences marked by resentment, the Hispanic world was able to generate a culture based on spirituality, Roman law, Greek philosophy, and Christian thought.

“Gastronomy is one of the most refined forms of Ibero-American expression. Today, chefs are cultural icons,” Cremades stated.

The lawyer also emphasized that upholding the rule of law is essential for creativity and freedom of expression—including in the kitchen—to flourish without restrictions. In this regard, he warned about the current risks of polarization and disinformation, and called for the protection of the rule of law.

The co-organizing association, Influencia Hispana, participated in the event, explaining the objective of this first edition: to create a space for encounter and reflection on Hispanic culture, based on a shared heritage. They thanked the collaborating embassies and sponsoring brands, and announced that the second edition of the Influencia Hispana Awards will take place in October at the Rafael del Pino Auditorium in Madrid.
