Javier Cremades follows in Pepe Blanco's footsteps and stops representing Huawei in Brussels

The law firm Cremades & Calvo-Sotelo has ceased its lobbying work for Huawei in Brussels, a decision also recently made by Acento, the consultancy led by former minister José Blanco.
The firm, headed by Javier Cremades, is thus following in the footsteps of former minister José Blanco, whose consultancy, Acento, has also terminated its professional relationship with the Chinese multinational. This exodus comes at a time of heightened political and economic tension for Huawei.
In recent weeks, the European Commission has increased the pressure it has been exerting, along with the United States, on the Chinese technology giant.
Last March, Belgian police raided the company's offices in the European capital, and the Commission has recently urged EU member states to restrict Huawei's access to 5G networks, with particular emphasis on Spain. The Trump Administration is also closely monitoring the ties between Spain and the Chinese company.
According to European Commission lobbying records reviewed by this newspaper, the Cremades law firm has worked in Brussels for Huawei Technologies Düsseldorf and Huawei Technologies Spain, receiving between €100,000 and €200,000 from each subsidiary of the Chinese giant.
In the European Commission records reviewed, the Spanish firm explains that it has followed “various calls for expressions of interest from EU institutions” that could affect shareholders of Spanish electricity companies, as well as “new proposals for regulations and directives on cybersecurity and consumer issues.”
According to the same official documentation, Cremades held a virtual meeting last April with Socialist MEP Rosa Serrano Sierra, who is part of the European Delegation for Relations with the People’s Republic of China.
Sources at the firm, consulted by Economía Digital, indicate that the contract with Huawei, signed last year, was terminated a week ago.
